Press Release.
Friday 22nd May saw 21 members of The Custodians Fencing club celebrate the clubs 15th
anniversary at the Castle Sports Complex Spalding. To celebrate, the club ran its anniversary tournament, a team event contested between evenly matched teams made up of Seniors, Cadets, Novice and junior
members.
As usual the event proved to be a close run thing with total points scored being the format to decide the
wining team. At the end of the evening two teams were tied on 60 points, but on count back
with more junior victories the winning team was team 1, lead by Andrew Clark, with Rachel Gale, Toby Hill, Eddy Smith,
James Brand, Luke Cowdell, Caleb McCulloch and Luke Dankoff.
The biggest upset of the
night came when Club Coach and Founder member Andrew Bayston lost his only fight of the night to son Philip Bayston. This
was the first time that family honour had gone the way of the junior family member, and by the applause on the night proved
to be a popular result. Philip obviously enjoys the anniversary tournaments, as on the Clubs big tenth anniversary tournament he won the junior event out right.
The clubs oldest trophy
the Anniversary cup was presented to Team captain Andrew Clark by former Club Captain and original member Clive Shardlow.
And from the winning
Captain.
Just want to say a very well
done to my team. Especially the juniors as the 8.30-10.30 squad played well but the highest percentage of our points
came from you guys.
2 special notes.
Phil - Well done again on
beating the Blademaster for the first time.
Andie - Sterling play for
team 3. A very big thank you for organising the tournament and an even bigger thank you for being the Blademaster and giving
up 15 years of Friday evenings bringing people together, keeping them fit, and giving us plenty of bruises to show off
to our mates!
